Jon Lehrer Dance Company (JLDC) began in 2007 in Buffalo, NY, and has received critical acclaim nationally and internationally. Jon moved the company to his hometown of NYC in 2019, where they have become a vibrant addition to the city’s dance community. Under Jon Lehrer’s artistic direction, the company showcases his unique choreography and definitive style. His extensive background in both the modern and jazz dance idioms fosters choreography that is organic, athletic, artistic, entertaining, and often humorous, reflecting human experiences.
Jon Lehrer Dance Company’s mission is to share and spread the joy of dance through performance, education, community engagement, and artistic collaboration. With choreographic works by Jon Lehrer, the company brings edge-of-your-seat excitement to audiences worldwide through a signature style of movement that is organic, athletic, artistic, and accessible.
The EFA performances will feature four dance works:
- Bridge and Tunnel: Jon Lehrer’s playful and joyous homage to growing up in Queens, NY – specifically his high school years in Flushing. Originally created on Giordano Dance Chicago while Jon was still in the company, this celebratory work is set to the toe-tapping music of Paul Simon (another Queens native);
- mingos!: A raucous and wild comedic romp set in a classic Las Vegas revue, where a Flamboyance of Flamingos are transformed into an Ostentation of Peacocks;
- Pulp: “With a lot of wit and slapstick the dancers take the audience on a crazy journey. Pulp shows that dance theater can be poetic, expressive, and moving.” – RP-Online – Vieren, Germany; and
- Solstice: A celebration of all things summer, Solstice was commissioned by and created at Artpark in Lewiston, NY for their Summer Solstice Celebration.
